Product Overview
Meet the IFM204 inductive sensor from ifm. It belongs to the IF series. This sensor offers a 7 mm extended sensing range in a stainless steel M12 housing. It carries E1 type approval for mobile machines. The order code is IFKC007-ASKG/V4A/US-104.
Use it for non-flush mounting. The stainless steel 316L body resists harsh conditions. The white LCP sensing face supports reliable detection. Two lock nuts come in the box for quick setup.

Installation Guide
- Use the two lock nuts supplied to fix the sensor.
- Keep a non-flush mounting position. Avoid metal close to the sensing face.
- Tighten to 15 Nm. Do not over-torque.
- Connect the M12 A-coded plug. Match the 3 gold-plated contacts correctly.
- Check the 4 yellow LEDs for switching status after power-up.
Setup and Maintenance
- Apply 10 to 36 V DC. Reverse polarity protection is built in.
- Keep load current between 2 mA and 100 mA.
- Use the 300 Hz switching frequency for fast cycle tasks.
- Clean the white LCP face with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive tools.
- The IP 69K rating supports high-pressure washdown.
- No routine calibration is needed. The sensor is factory set.
Compatibility Notes
- Works with steel targets at full 7 mm range.
- For stainless steel, apply factor 0.7 to the range.
- For brass, use factor 0.5. For aluminium, use factor 0.4. For copper, use factor 0.3.
- Fits standard M12 x 1 threaded mounts.
- Accepts common M12 A-coded cordsets.

FAQ
Q: Can this sensor detect aluminium targets at 7 mm?
A: No. Aluminium has a correction factor of 0.4. Expect about 2.8 mm sensing range on aluminium.
Q: Does the IFM204 work on 24 V DC mobile systems?
A: Yes. It accepts 10 to 36 V DC. The E1 approval supports mobile machine use.
Q: What is the real switching distance tolerance in practice?
A: The real sensing range is 7 mm ±10%. Switch point drift stays within -10 to 10% of Sr.
Q: How do I know the output is active?
A: The yellow LEDs show switching status from four sides. They are visible at 90° angles.
Q: Can I mount it flush in metal?
A: No. This model is non-flush mountable. Keep metal away from the sensing face.
Q: Is a separate amplifier needed?
A: No. The sensor has a built-in PNP/NPN normally open output. Connect it directly to your input card.
Q: What spare part should I keep on hand?
A: Keep an extra M12 A-coded cordset. Also keep the two lock nuts for fast replacement.
