Product details
Product Introduction
- FD-XS20 is a clamp-on ultrasonic flow sensor head from Keyence.
- It measures flow from outside the pipe. No cutting. No pressure loss.
- Maximum rated flow rate reaches 20 L/min on larger pipe sizes.
- It supports metal pipes and plastic pipes, soft or hard.
- It handles water, oil, adhesive, grease, and chemical solutions.
- Fluid temperature range: 0 °C to 100 °C. No freezing on the pipe surface.
- Rated IP65/IP67/IP68G for harsh plant conditions.
- Best fit: tight spaces, retrofits, and inline monitoring without pipe modification.

Installation Guide
- Pick the clamp set that matches your pipe material and outer diameter.
- Plastic pipe clamp sets: FD-XC20R1, FD-XC20R2, FD-XC20R3, FD-XC20R4.
- Metal pipe clamp sets: FD-XC20M1, FD-XC20M2.
- Clean the pipe surface. Remove dirt, oil, and rust.
- Mount the sensor head on a straight pipe section. Keep flow steady at the measuring point.
- Tighten the fixing screws evenly. Do not over-tighten.
- Keep the detection surface in full contact with the pipe.
- Route the cable away from power lines and inverters.
Setup and Maintenance
- Set the response time to match your process: 50 ms for fast tracking, 500 ms for stable readings.
- Choose standard or high resolution mode on the controller.
- Set the zero cut flow rate to suppress small drift near zero.
- Use the status indicator for quick health checks.
- Wipe the detection surface during scheduled maintenance.
- Check clamp screw tightness after pipe vibration or thermal cycles.
- No moving parts inside the pipe. Maintenance stays simple.
Compatibility
- Works with metal pipes and plastic pipes, soft or hard.
- Pipe sizes: 3/8″ (9.53 mm), Ø10, Ø10.5, Ø12, 1/2″ (12.7 mm), Ø13.8.
- Fluids: water, oil, adhesive, grease, and chemical solutions.
- Use the correct clamp set for each pipe material. This keeps accuracy within spec.
- Pairs with the FD-X series controller for display and output.
Certifications and Standards
- Enclosure rating: IP65/IP67 per IEC60529.
- Enclosure rating: IP68G per JIS C0920.

FAQ
- Q: Can I install it without stopping the line?
- A: Yes. The clamp design allows mounting on an existing pipe. No cutting is needed.
- Q: Why is my reading noisy at low flow?
- A: Small bubbles or vibration can cause this. Switch to 500 ms response and set a higher zero cut value.
- Q: Which clamp set should I order first?
- A: Measure the pipe outer diameter and note the material. Then match it to the R or M clamp list.
- Q: Does pipe material affect accuracy?
- A: Yes. Metal and plastic pipes have different repeatability specs. Always use the matching clamp set.
- Q: How often should I recalibrate?
- A: Most users check once a year. Recheck after pipe replacement or major process changes.
- Q: Can it measure adhesive or grease?
- A: Yes, the rated fluid list includes adhesive and grease. Keep fluid temperature within 0 to 100 °C
